Biography
My research interests relate to interactions between plants and their environment. This has included work in alpine and arctic environments, and trying to understand the factors that regulate biodiversity and the response of these systems to climate change. Visit my profile to find about more.
For SEFARI I focus on the interactions between plants in arable farming systems, including interactions between crop and plants, and between crops and non-crop vascular plants, particularly agricultural weeds. The aim of this work is to understand the role of biodiversity in regulating system functions such as productivity, and whether management of biodiversity can help deliver sustainable crop production systems.
I have also been a coordinator for biodiversity and ecosystems work and I am currently leading on work related to natural assets being delivered as part of the Strategic Research Programme. I am also a member of the Science Support Group for the Scottish Biodiversity Strategy and am secretary for the British Ecological Society’s Scottish Policy Group.
